Integrated transport planning

The Place

Faced with rapid population growth, increasing density from residential and commercial development along with major upgrades to regional traffic and transport network, the inner-metropolitan City of Belmont required a cohesive and strategic approach to guide the development of its future integrated movement network.  The strategy was to be informed by a robust community engagement program with broad reach, while also targeting specific local user groups.

Our Role

Working with Flyt, Place Match delivered the community and stakeholder engagement strategy to influence and guide the overall Integrated Movement Network Strategy - Belmont on the Move.

The strategy involved:

  • Reviewing existing city-wide transport infrastructure and services, including opportunities and constraints
  • Workshops and working sessions to define the project vision, values and critical success factors
  • A tiered community engagement program shaped to optimise community reach, incorporating online and traditional methods.

Outcomes

The community engagement approach identified a range of common issues and opportunities – both strategic and tactical – to inform the overall Belmont on the Move strategy, such as public transport, facilities and amenities, roads, pathways and crossings, safety and security and parking management.

In the context of other local community and stakeholder engagement activities, a high level of participation was achieved and the online engagement forum enabled the City to expand its traditional community engagement offer.
