Case Study : Canning City Centre

A revitalised Canning City Centre

The Place

Located just 20 minutes from Perth, Canning City Centre is set to become a Strategic Metropolitan Centre for Perth, in line with the requirements of the State Government’s Planning Policy Directions 2031 and Beyond.   The area currently is home to major retail activity, good transport connections, significant river foreshore areas and parklands but is at present car dominated and lacks amenity in key areas.

Our role

We developed a Place Activation Plan for the City of Canning that also supported and reflected the development of its draft Structure Plan, focussing on place positioning, economic development and community-based initiatives.

Outcomes

The Place Activation Plan outlined a place vision and brand direction and included strategies to encourage the development of strategic partnerships, place management and governance, improve general amenity through ‘quick wins’ and tactical initiatives as well as to attract public and private sector investment into the area.
