Community Development in Shenton Park
The former Shenton Park Hospital is a unique place with a strong history and local identity. From its early days as a hospital and isolation unit for infectious disease, it has remained an important state government asset and includes heritage listed buildings such as Victoria House and Sir George Bedbrook Spinal Unit.
With services relocated in 2014 to the State Rehabilitation Centre at Fiona Stanley Hospital, the site is now a rare infill opportunity for integrated urban living, close to the CBD and the coast, with LandCorp leading site master planning and redevelopment.
To support the master planning process, Place Match was appointed to complete a Community Development Plan (CDP). This strategic document assessed the existing and future needs of the local community, the availability of current infrastructure, facilities and services and defined a framework for community development which meets Green Star – Communities National Framework guidelines. A series of unique community development themes were created along with a customised implementation plan to guide programming and place activation, community capacity building, governance and management and stakeholder engagement and communications.
The Community Development Plan aligns with the Green Star Communities Framework Liveability Principles and provides a guiding document for community development activity that supports LandCorp’s vision for the site, empowers residents and community groups to take stewardship of their community and successfully integrates community development initiatives with marketing and sales strategies.
